The book is not a flag waving exercise but a critical look at the Kargil war, which left twelve hundred men approximately five hundred Indian soldiers and seven hundred Pakistani intruders dead. Another eleven hundred Indian soldiers were maimed, half of them permanently. Through ten essays by commentators who either covered the Kargil war or followed it closely, the book takes us to the theatre of war and makes us experience what it was like for the jawans and the young officers fighting there.
